Nutty Dates Roll/Khajoor Katri/Kharjoora Burfi (Burfi with No Sugar)

Here is a simple Dates Burfi recipe for you all. This healthy burfi is completely free from sugar. Perfect burfi to chew after your weekend lunch/brunch at home. People who are following diet food can have this once in a while as it doesn't contain much of ghee too. Poppy seeds and dry fruits makes this burfi more nutritious and it is good for kids. Any day this kind of home made burfis are better than any chocolates available in the market. Isn't it?

This recipe makes 15-16 medium size rolls.


1 cup - chopped Seedless Dates / Khajoor/kharjoora 
1/3 to 1/2 cup -  Mixed Dry Fruits/Nuts of your choice like Cashews, Almonds, Pecans etc.
2 tbsp -Poppy seeds
1 tbsp - Condensed milk  ( optional )
1 tbsp -Ghee (clarified butter) 

How To Prepare?

  • Chop nuts and dates into small pieces separately and keep it ready.This is a time consuming step.
  • Run chopped dates in a mixer just for few secs.                                                                                                
  • Dry roast poppy seeds in low flame till they are aromatic. You will be done within a minute. Allow it to cool down.
  • In the same pan , dry roast the chopped nuts for 1-2 minutes on medium flame and transfer them into a separate bowl.Heat ghee in a pan and add dates. Saute on a medium to low flame till dates become soft.Add chopped nuts and mix everything well.

  • At this stage if the mixture becomes very dry, add a spoonful of condensed milk and mix everything well to form a mass. (I did not use it as the mixture was not dry)
  • Now switch off the flame and let it cool down little bit. When it is warm grease your palm with ghee and shape it into cylindrical rolls.
  • Spread the roasted poppy seeds in a plate.Roll the rolls in poppy seeds. Make sure entire roll is covered with poppy seeds.Refrigerate/set aside for 1-2 hours and later cut into pieces of your desired shape.

  • I used only almonds , cashews and pecans. You can add pistachios too.
