MTR Rasam


Serves: 3
Ingredients :
  • 2 medium size tomatoes chopped into small pieces(optional )
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/2 tsp mustard
  • one dry red chilly chopped into 3 pieces.
  • 10 curry leaves/kadi patta
  • 1 tbsp  coconut oil/ghee
  • salt as required
  • pinch of Asafoetida 
  • jagri of size half lemon
  • 2 tsp tamarind paste
  • one tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • two handfuls of toor dal
  • 1 tbsp MTR rasam powder 
How to Prepare ?
  1. rinse and pressure cook the dal and keep aside.
  2. Mix 1 cup of  water, chopped tomatoes , tamarind , turmeric powder, jagri , MTR rasam powder and salt in a large cooking vessel and bring it to boil. Continue boiling for 5-6 mins.
  3. Now add  cooked dal and boil it 10 mins. Add water if required.
  4. At last add coriander leaves and Asafoetida and switch off the flame.
  5. heat oil in another pan ,add mustard seeds , urad dal , dry red chilly . Fry till the mustard seed pops out , now add curry leaves and switch off the flame. Add this seasoning on top and give a quick stir.
  6. This goes well with hot rice and ghee.
