Aloogadde Mosaru Gojju/ Boiled potatoes in spiced yogurt

Potatoes can be be cooked in so many different ways and most of the times it turns out good.  Today I will be sharing the recipe of udupi made with boiled potato and yogurt . Traditionally this yogurt based dish is served with warm rice. This goes well with plain paratha too. Very Simple and Healthy "No Onion No Garlic Dish" for your quick week night dinner.....

Prep time is just 3 minutes if you have ready boiled potatoes :-)

Serves 2

Ingredients:
2 medium size potato
1 tbsp finely chopped onion(completely optional , skip if you do not like the raw smell of onion)
1/2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1/4 tsp grated fresh ginger(optional)
1-2 green chilly chopped finely
1/2 cup yogurt ( whisk well and keep it aside)
pinch of asafoetida
salt to taste

For seasoning:
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
1/2 tsp jeera /cumin seeds
1-2 dry red chilly cut into halves
8-10 curry leaves
1-2 tsp cooking oil ( preferably coconut oil)

How To Prepare ?

  • Boil potatoes and peel off the skin.Smash the potatoes using hand/fork gently and transfer it into a mixing bowl. Don't smash it into a smooth paste. ( leaving few small cubes just like that gives a good taste and texture to the dish)

  • Add chopped coriander leaves, asafoetida, chopped green chilly, ginger and salt to the same mixing bowl.
  • Prepare the seasoning in a separate seasoning pan.Heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds pop out, add urad dal , broken red chilly, cumin seeds ,curry leaves and fry for few secs. Pour this seasoning on top of smashed potato.
  • Mix everything well.
  • Now add whisked yogurt and mix well again. Consistency should be neither very thick nor very thin.Adjust the salt again before you serve.

Alternative / Note:
  • Make sure you don't smash potato into very smooth paste.
  • You can also add ginger, green chilly into a seasoning instead of adding them directly into the dish.
  • You can also add chopped onion along with yogurt. I don't prefer this as I don't like raw smell of onion.
Thanks so much for going through my recipe.Kindly get back to me with your comments. .Please do share it with your friends and family if you like the recipe :-)
