Menthe Tambuli /Fenugreek seeds in Spiced yogurt

In Indian cooking we often use fenugreek seeds and leaves both. This spice is amazing as it keeps you healthy and beautiful.  Yes , this spice has got lots of medicinal properties. We use this in Indian style dals, curries and parathas. Today I am going to share one another traditional recipe of fenugreek from udupi ie , "menthe tambuli". Very easy to prepare as you will not be cooking too much here.
My grandmother used to prepare this dish and she used to serve the same as a first dish in a full course meal .!! What a amazing taste ..I couldn't match that taste till today :-)

Please try it at home and share the recipe with your friends and family if you like .

Ingredients:
1/2 tsp fenugreek powder
salt to taste
3-4 tbsp of yogurt
2-3 tbsp of fresh grated coconut/coconut flakes
1 green chilly, finely chopped

for seasoning:
1 tsp musatd seeds
1/2 tsp urad dal
1 red dry chilly , chopped into halves
1/4 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
1-2 tsp of cooking oil/preferably coconut oil
6-8 curry leaves

How To Prepare?
  • Grind 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds into a fine powder. Add half of the green chilly, coconut and salt into it . Grind all the ingredients into a smooth paste along with little water and transfer it to a mixing bowl.
  • Add yogurt to it and mix it well.
  • Prepare the seasoning in separate pan. heat oil in  a pan . Add urad dal , mustard seeds and red chilly to it . Fry till mustard seed pops out . Now add curry leaves and cumin seeds to it .Fry for few secs and add on top of the tambuli. Add remaining green chilies too.Give a nice stir before you serve. This goes well with Rice.

Tips/Notes:
  • Don't add more fenugreek powder , because if you add more your dish becomes bitter in taste.Just add 1/2 tsp or little less than that.
  • Make this tambuli little watery , because it thickens after sometime.
